Overview
An Orientation QR code lets a worker scan a code and complete a required orientation before starting work. Once every required item is finished, Salus marks the orientation complete and can automatically issue a certificate if you've set one up.
You can create two types of orientation: a Site Orientation, tied to one specific Site, or a Company Orientation, which applies company-wide and isn't tied to any Site.
Start a New Orientation
- Click Orientations in the left-hand navigation.
- Click Create Orientation.
- From Orientation Type, select Site or Company.
If You Chose Site
- Enter a name in QR Code Name.
- Select the Site this orientation applies to from Select Site.
If You Chose Company
- Enter a name in Orientation Name.
- Choose a Company Orientation Expiration Period, or leave it as Always Valid if it shouldn't expire.
Note: Workers become non-compliant once a Company Orientation expires, so pick an expiration period that matches how often workers need to redo it. Site Orientations don't have an expiration setting.
Configure Items, Certificate, and Access
These sections work the same way for both Site and Company orientations.
- Under Orientation Items, click Add Item to choose what a worker has to complete.
- Optionally, check Complete in order if required items must be finished in sequence. Optional items can still be completed anytime.
- To automatically issue a certificate when the orientation is completed, check Generate Certificate, then select a Certificate Type and Certificate Expiration Period.
- Under Access Control, choose who should have access to this QR code, including whether Subcontractors can access it.
- Under Assigned Roles, select which roles are required to complete this orientation.
- Click Create Orientation.
Generate Certificate
When checked, reveals Certificate Type (which certificate to issue) and Certificate Expiration Period (how long that certificate stays valid).
Use it when: you want workers to receive proof of completion automatically, without issuing a certificate manually.
Get the QR Code
- On the Orientations list, find the orientation you just created.
- In the Actions column, click the QR Code icon.
- In the popup, click Copy Link to copy the direct link, or Download to save the QR code as an image.
What Happens Next
When a worker scans the QR code or opens the link, they're taken through the required items, in order if Complete in order is checked, or in any order otherwise. Once every required item is finished, the orientation is marked complete for that worker, and a certificate is issued automatically if Generate Certificate was enabled.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a Site Orientation and a Company Orientation?
A Site Orientation applies to one Site only. A Company Orientation applies company-wide, isn't tied to any Site, and can have an expiration period after which workers become non-compliant.
Do non-interactive items like images or folders count toward completion?
No. Only interactive items count. Non-interactive resources are for reference and don't need to be completed.
What happens if I don't enable Generate Certificate?
Nothing automatic. No certificate is issued when the orientation is completed, though the completion itself is still recorded.
Can subcontractors access an orientation QR code?
Yes, if Subcontractor access is enabled under Access Control when the orientation is created.
How do I get the QR code after creating the orientation?
Click the QR Code icon in the Actions column on the Orientations list, then use Copy Link or Download.
Can I require items to be completed in a specific order?
Yes. Check Complete in order when setting up the orientation. Required items must then be completed in sequence, though optional items can still be done anytime.
