Translating Forms with AI

Introduction

NOTE: AI makes mistakes, always verify information generated by AI before making critical decisions.

SALUS now offers AI-powered functionality to translate forms to a language of your choice, making it easier to quickly understand what's being reported from your field teams, even if their native language is not the same as yours. When viewing a form, simply select the AI Translation  button to automatically translate the text into a language of your choice.

As with all AI technology, there may be some errors. Please confirm the intended meaning of any translated text with relevant parties before making any decisions or taking an actions as a result of the translated text.

Please reference this article for guidance and clarification on this new feature.

How to access AI Translations

AI translations can be accessed when viewing any submitted or draft form. From a desktop/laptop computer, log in to SALUS and click ‘Forms’ from the left-hand side navigation. From this new page, ensure you are on the ‘Submitted’ tab and click on any submitted form.

From there, you will see a new button at the top left called 'AI Translation'. Click this button.

Then, choose the language you would like the form translated into. We currently support English, Spanish, and French, but will soon be adding more.

Our AI engine will automatically detect any text that is not in the desired language and translate it. Even if some fields are in English, others in Spanish, and still others in any other language, they will all be detected and translated into your desired language automatically.

After translation is complete, you will see three new elements on the page:

  1. A banner at the top that explains this form has been translated.
  2. A button at the top right that allows you to return to the untranslated view.
  3. Every field that was translated will appear with a notice that shows you that it was translated, and which language it was translated from.

Translating New, Draft or Submitted Forms

New Form Submissions

When a new form submission is started, any user will be able to translate the form template into a target language of their choice. This enables workers in the field to use your forms even if they don't understand the language they are written in.

Draft Forms

When you translate a draft form that already has information added to it by another user, you will have the option to translate just the template (e.g. the field labels), or all the input values as well. If you choose to translate the inputted values (for example, a worker has submitted an incident summary in their native language that you can't read), you will be unable to input or edit data into the form to ensure the integrity of the originally submitted data is preserved.

Submitted Forms

When translating a submitted form, you will have the ability to translate the template, the inputted values, or both.
