SALUS LMS - Getting Started

Welcome to SALUS LMS! This guide is designed to help you quickly set up your SALUS LMS and explore the capabilities you need to know about to get things up and running. From creating your first course to enrolling your workers and tracking their progress, this article will point you to the resources you need to learn the basics. Let’s dive in and unlock the full potential of SALUS LMS!

Groups

Your SALUS workers are already assigned to Departments in the LMS. This segmentation happens automatically and matches the roles they are assigned to on your SALUS platform and is not something you can change. If you need to segment your workers in ways other than their roles/departments then Groups is your mechanism to make this happen. Groups are not a requirement for using the LMS so if you do not have a need for them then feel free to skip this step!

These resources below will teach you everything you need to know to create and manage groups

Create Tool

The Create tool is a built-in authoring tool within the LMS that allows users to design and develop engaging e-learning content. With Create, you can build interactive courses using templates, multimedia elements (videos, images, and audio), quizzes, and assessments—without needing external software. It’s designed to be user-friendly, enabling both instructional designers and administrators to create professional-quality learning experiences quickly. The tool also supports SCORM-compliant content, ensuring compatibility across various learning platforms.

These resources will help you get started using the Create tool.

Adding Online Courses

Once you have your course content ready to go (either via the create tool or done externally) you will need to add the course to your LMS and configure all of the settings that go along with it.

These resources will help you get started with adding courses and working through the configuration

Enrollment Rules

Once you have all of your course content in place and have built your online course to house that content, no one will be able to actually take the course until you configure enrollment for it.  You can do this one of two ways:

  1. Self-enrollment: This allows users to voluntarily find and enroll in the course through the LMS.  They will not receive any notifications about the course until they visit the LMS and choose to enroll. The process for turning this on is outlined in the "How to Create an Online Course" article above.
  2. Enrollment Rules: If you want to automatically assign courses to users so they are notified of their requirement to complete the course, use enrollment rules to assign courses to specific departments, groups, or users.

Certificate Creation

When a user successfully completes an online course in the LMS, a certificate for that course will be automatically generated in SALUS and added to the user's profile. These certificates will remain in the "Unapproved" tab on your SALUS certificates page until they have been assigned to a certificate type and approved. If you need a refresher on how this works then check out these resources:

Reporting

Once you have some online courses up and running on your LMS you may want to keep track of who is enrolled in your courses and who is and is not completing them. this can all be easy accomplished within the reporting interface of the LMS. Here, you can monitor progress in a variety of ways including course level views, department level views or even by specific users or groups of users. Check out this resource to learn more.
