Quiz Mode turns Boolean, Selection, and Drop-down fields into interactive knowledge checks. Instead of scoring answers or tracking pass and fail results, Quiz Mode simply blocks form submission until the correct answer is chosen for each quiz question.
Use it when you want to confirm someone understood a question before they move on, such as a safety check built into an inspection form or a knowledge check inside an onboarding form. When someone answers incorrectly, they see a custom error message you write, then they can correct their answer and continue.
Where to Find It
Supported Field Types
Quiz Mode can be enabled on these field types:
- Boolean fields (Yes/No, True/False, Pass/Fail, or other custom labels)
- Selection fields
- Drop-down fields
Note: The Options tab looks different depending on the field type. Boolean fields show a single dropdown for the correct answer. Selection and Drop-down fields show a full options table with a checkbox column for marking correct answers.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Turn On Quiz Mode
- Open Form Builder and open the form that contains the field you want to turn into a quiz question.
- Click Edit on that field.
- On the Details tab, find the Field Type section.
- Select Quiz Mode instead of Regular Field.
Set the Correct Answer: Boolean Fields
- Click the Options tab.
- Select the correct answer from the Correct Answer dropdown. This dropdown reflects whatever labels you set for the field, such as True/False, Yes/No, or Pass/Fail.
- Enter your custom message in the Quiz error message field.
- Click Save Field.
Correct Answer
Dropdown that sets the one correct value for the boolean question. Options match the labels configured for the field.
Use it when: the field only has two possible answers, such as Yes/No or True/False.
Quiz error message
The message shown when someone selects the wrong answer. Comes with a default message you can overwrite.
Use it when: you want to guide the user toward the right answer without giving it away.
Set the Correct Answer: Selection & Drop-Down Fields
- Click the Options tab.
- In the options table, check the Correct box next to each option that counts as a correct answer. You can mark more than one option as correct.
- Enter your custom message in the Quiz error message field.
- Click Save Field.
Correct
Checkbox in the options table that marks a specific option as a correct answer. You can check more than one box if a question has multiple right answers.
Use it when: the field lists several options and you need to flag which ones are correct.
Tip: Keep the error message short and instructional, and avoid stating the correct answer outright. The goal is to prompt someone to think again, not hand them the answer.
What Happens Next
Once Quiz Mode is saved on a field, anyone filling out the form sees that question like normal, with no visible indication it's a quiz. If they select the wrong answer and try to submit, the form blocks submission and shows your custom error message next to that question.
They can change their answer and submit again. The form does not calculate a score or record a pass or fail result anywhere, it only checks that the correct answer was selected before allowing submission to continue.
Frequently Asked Questions
My employees can't submit the form until they answer correctly. Is that normal?
Yes. That's how Quiz Mode is designed to work. If someone seems stuck with no way to get past a question, check that the field actually has a correct answer set in the Options tab. A missing correct answer will block everyone, not just the person filling out the form.
I set up a quiz field, but no error message appears when someone answers incorrectly. What's wrong?
Check the Details tab and confirm the field is set to Quiz Mode, not Regular Field. Regular Field fields accept any answer without checking it, so a wrong answer won't trigger anything. Confirm there is a message in the "Quiz error message" field in the options tab.
A worker's answer looks correct to me, but the form still marks it wrong. Why?
For Selection and Drop-down fields, correct answers are set individually using the Correct checkbox next to each option. Open the Options tab and confirm the intended option, and only that option, is checked. It's easy to accidentally check a similarly worded option instead.
Does Quiz Mode give a score or a pass/fail result?
No. Quiz Mode doesn't calculate scores or track pass and fail results anywhere. It's built for assisted learning: helping someone catch and correct a wrong answer before moving on, not to grade performance.
What field types support Quiz Mode?
Boolean fields (Yes/No, True/False, or other custom labels), Selection fields, and Drop-down fields.
Any tips for writing the error message shown on a wrong answer?
Keep it short and instructional, and avoid revealing the correct answer directly. The goal is to prompt someone to reconsider their answer, not simply supply the right one.
