Offline access in Salus: what you need to know
Overview
Salus Mobile is built for field crews who don't always have a reliable connection. This article covers what works offline, what doesn't, and how to make sure the documents your team needs are available even without service.
Seamless Collaboration and Syncing
- Collaborative forms: Multiple people can work on the same form, moving smoothly between online and offline as their connection changes.
- Auto-sync across devices: Start a form on desktop, keep editing it in the field, and share it with others, even without cell service. There's no need to manually save.
What's Available Offline
- Asset logs, document signing, and corrective actions: These can be created and managed directly in the mobile app, even offline.
- Certificates: Add images from your Photo Library or take a new photo when creating one. To make a certificate available offline, complete its details, select Make Available Offline, and tap Save.
- Corrective actions and messages: These are automatically available offline with no setup required, but you can't send or receive new ones while offline.
- QR codes: Scanning a QR code requires an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection and can't be done offline.
Make a Document Available Offline
- Go to the Documents section on the Salus website.
- Turn on Offline Sync for the file you want available offline.
- Anyone with the app installed can now access the document, as long as it downloads while they're online at least once.
Tip: Documents sync automatically at random intervals while the app is open. To force an immediate sync instead of waiting, go to My Toolkit and tap Refresh App Data.
What Happens Next
If a form or item is created or edited while offline or on a poor connection, it may not sync right away. In that case, it's only fully visible on the original device until it successfully syncs. For how to spot and fix an unsynced item, see "Offline Troubleshooting."
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I lose connection while editing a form?
You can keep working. Salus saves automatically and syncs once your connection returns.
Can I send or receive corrective actions and messages while offline?
You can view existing ones offline, but you can't send or receive new ones until you're back online.
Why won't a QR code scan without a connection?
QR scanning requires an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection. It's the one feature that can't work offline at all.
Do I need to manually refresh to get the latest documents, or does that happen automatically?
It happens automatically at random intervals while the app is open. Refresh App Data in My Toolkit is only there if you want to force a sync sooner.
